Novo Selo and Štip

Novo Selo is one of those places in Macedonia: an authentic beauty covered by the ravages of time where a visitor will be noticed and embraced by its inhabitants with curiosity and hospitality, where its famous histories will be shared with pride. I got some great help from some people I encountered to find the right spots. Kurt Hielscher made four photos here and one in nearby Štip, where I stayed for the night. Novo Selo is offically a part of Štip, but Novo Selo definitely has another soul.

Novo Selo is like an open air museum, a beauty covered by the test of time

Novo Selo can be considered as an open air museum and it is fun to stroll around, though some old and authentic buildings could have been preserved better. There seemed to be no other tourists when I was there. I surely hope to come back one day and bring my family as well to show them around too. Štip, I mostly used for having dinner and sleeping. I also went to a student bar with some excellent Fridaynight live music.

What a crazy day! I started at Skopje Airport at noon. My first stop was Veles, where I ran back to my car to escape the emerging thunderstorm. On arrival in Prilep it was dry again. First shop I made a stop and I bougt some fine burek for lunch and visited Prilep Manastir and explored the city center a little. Back to the northeast, I passed the Pletvar pass again, this time it was dry so I made a quick stop only to discover later at home that I almost made my photo in the footsteps of Kurt Hielscher. Unfortunately, I had to skip the archeological findings of Stobi, to proceed my trip to Štip where I would stay for the night, but first I wanted to make the four photos in Novo Selo.

Nowadays, the building on the left is a small but fine museum about the region's history. I was warmly welcomed by a man, who introduced himself as a Serb and reopened the museum especially for me at 7 pm. Everyone I spoke that day during my short visit to Novo Selo emphasized the importance of the history of the village and the people who were born or stayed there. For example, the first photo from the museum shows Goce Delčev, a national hero in both Macedonia and Bulgaria who came to Novo Selo in 1894 to work as a teacher.

And then I found out I forgot my toothbrush, but this problem was soved in a minute when I let the people know about it. The store was opened again only for me and I could buy a new one.
